Robotics researcher confirms international conference in Québec City

Event Ambassadors

From robot designer to event ambassador, a transition the Université Laval robotics researcher Clément Gosselin was happy to make! Thanks to Gosselin’s involvement and influence, the Québec City Convention Centre will be hosting the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)’s International Design Engineering Technical Conferences and Computers & Information in Engineering Conference (IDETC/CIE) from August 26 to 29, 2018. Some 1,000 engineers from academia, government, and industry will gather in Québec City. This major event is expected to generate $4.5 million for the city.

Professor Gosselin, Director of the Université Laval Robotics Laboratory and holder of the Canada Research Chair in Robotics and Mechatronics, has earned an international reputation and many awards in his field of expertise. An ASME fellow, Gosselin convinced the American organization to choose Québec City for their event, with the support of the Québec City Convention Centre and in collaboration with account executive Marie-Elaine Lemieux.

In February 2017, Erin T. Dolan, program manager for ASME technical events in New York City, accepted an invitation to visit Québec City and experience the joys of winter during an eductour of the city. Dolan was delighted with her experience, which tipped the balance in favour of Québec City for host of IDETC/CIE 2018.

Gosselin and Dolan will be working together to organize the conferences. In the meantime, Gosselin will promote the event in Cleveland at the 2017 IDETC/CIE in August.
