At the Québec City Convention Centre, sustainable development is a natural commitment and an integral part of our vision. Each year, our team rolls out concrete new initiatives to advance our green practices and actively contribute to a more responsible future. Here is an overview of our latest projects for Spring 2026.

Giving Resources a Second Life
With the goal of maximizing material utility by giving items a second life, new collaborations have emerged with committed partners:
- Textile Repurposing: Our technical production team, through our sustainable development committee, donated 610 kg of used textiles (former stage curtains) to the organization Arico and its sister brand, Lilbee These materials will be transformed into filling for yoga cushions and bean bag chairs, contributing to the circular economy.
- Equipment Refurbishment: Approximately 40 end-of-life rolling bins were also donated to Arico, preventing them from being discarded. They will be refurbished for storage and equipment transport purposes.
Innovating to Reduce at the Source
To further reduce waste at the source, a reusable dishware pilot project was launched in March by Maestro Culinaire, the exclusive food services partner at the Québec City Convention Centre.
This new system applies to hot snack services and was tested on a large scale during the 2026 International Book Fair, which attracted more than 65,000 visitors over four days. Key features of the program include:
- Comprehensive Reuse: All service items (plates, bowls, utensils, and glasses) are reusable.
- In-house Management: Fully managed by the Maestro Culinaire team, this model rethinks daily operations without relying on external suppliers.
- Streamlined Sorting: Participants return dishware to redesigned sorting stations for greater efficiency. Items are collected, washed, and put back into circulation directly on-site.
Additionally, Maestro Culinaire collaborates with Go Consigne to recover refundable containers. This partnership has already yielded impressive results for the 2025-2026 period:
- 16,738.50 kg of materials diverted from landfills.
- 836,926 litres of water saved.
Encouraging Sustainable Transportation
Because the environmental footprint of an event includes attendee travel, our team encourages guests to adopt more responsible modes of transportation.
The Centre is proud to join the Allons Covoiturage movement as a partner location. This program, officially launching in June 2026, promotes ride-sharing to the region’s various tourist attractions and aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. More details to come.

Supporting Pollination and Greening Spaces
In 2026, the Québec City Convention Centre continues its urban beekeeping project with Alvéole for a tenth consecutive year. The bee colony will return this spring to its rooftop hive. At the end of the 2025 season, the hive housed approximately 55,000 bees, which produced nearly 50 kg of honey!
Furthermore, additional greening initiatives will be deployed around the Convention Centre, complementing the existing urban gardens on Promenade Desjardins , maintained by Les Urbainculteurs and Université Laval.
