The Mayor of Saint-Augustin-de-Desmaures, Sylvain Juneau, with support from Quebec City and Mayor Régis Labeaume, will submit an application at The World Council on City Data Global Cities Summit. The summit takes place in Dubai from March 5–7, bringing together 103 ISO 37120-certified smart cities from 26 countries. Our ambassador hopes to bring the event to Québec City in 2018.

caroline-langelierCaroline Langelier, Sales Director at the Québec City Convention Centre, will accompany Mr. Juneau and Saint-Augustin-de-Desmaures Director General Robert Doré during the mission to the United Arab Emirates. Mr. Juneau will also receive assistance from Québec’s Ambassadors’ Club financial aid program.

Obtaining this prestigious international summit would generate hundreds of thousands of dollars in economic benefits for the Québec City area.

At the same time, Québec City has announced that it has registered for the WCCD ISO 37120 standard accreditation process, the only international certification for sustainable development of communities. The aim is to continue the city’s efforts to improve quality of life and services in Québec City.

“This international event is an opportunity to discuss the importance of data for cities’ prosperity and sustainability,” said Mayor Juneau. “The WCCD Open City Data Portal, applicable to any city, no matter its size or geographical location, allows more than forty cities around the world, including Toronto, Boston, London, and Shanghai to compare data and analyze trends.”
