International Events Showcased at Université Laval’s Faculty of Science and Engineering

The Québec City Convention Centre recently teamed up with Nadir Belkhiter, the interim dean of Université Laval’s Faculty of Science and Engineering (FSG), for a back‑to‑school breakfast meeting on August 31. The hundred or so professors, staff members, students, and new faculty members in attendance were treated to a presentation on international events by two Québec City Convention Centre representatives, Jocelyn Guertin and Marie‑Elaine Lemieux.

The two presenters gave guests an overview of the support services, programs, and tools offered by the Convention Centre and Québec City Business Destination to help draw international events to the region and recruit event ambassadors to better showcase their field and Québec City. The university community, and the FSG in particular, represents an important pool of potential ambassadors. Guertin and Lemieux used the opportunity to highlight the benefits of the partnership between the Convention Centre and the university. Academic conferences held at the Convention Centre generate spending in the region and attract dollars for university research funds.

Two Université Laval professors shared their experiences as conference ambassadors and organizers. Georges Beaudoin from the Department of Geology and Geological Engineering was an ambassador for the Society for Geology Applied to Mineral Deposits (SGA)’s 14th biennial conference; Normand Voyer from the faculty’s Chemistry Department helped attract the International Society of Magnetic Resonance’s 20th conference (ISMAR 2017) to Québec City and was an ambassador for the International Symposium on Macrocyclic and Supramolecular Chemistry 2018.
