Convention Centre increases its Recycling Rate by 35%

Sustainability

In March and April 2015, the Québec City Convention Centre increased its recycling rate by 35%.

Raising the bar

Focused on continuously lessening negative environmental impact of meetings and events, the Convention Centre team works tirelessly to improve its sustainable practices. Over the last few months, considerable efforts were made to optimize recycling processes, to improve material recovery and the Convention Centre’s recycling rate. Meeting planners can rest assured that their meetings are sustainably held and backed with tried and tested methods

In the kitchens, sorting is the name of the game

Recycling is a tremendous task. In addition to food, kitchen staff must sort numerous containers and materials. Véronique Prince, the Convention Centre’s Sustainable Development Team Leader, furthered the training of the kitchen staff regarding sorting at the source. The team’s efforts have already had impressive results, seeing the recycling rate increase by 35%. Fortunately, 85% of disposable containers are compostable at the Convention Centre, facilitating decisions in the heat of the action.
