About the Order of Canada
Established in 1967 by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the Order of Canada recognizes outstanding achievement, dedication to the community, and service to the nation. Since its creation, some 7,000 people from all sectors of society have been invested into the Order. Their contributions are varied, yet they have all enriched the lives of others and reflect the Order’s motto: DESIDERANTES MELIOREM PATRIAM (“They desire a better country”). Appointments are made by the governor general based on the recommendations of the Order of Canada advisory committee.
Mr. Bouchard will be given the title of Member (C.M.) “for his service to the City of Québec and his dedication to promoting culture and sports.” He is one of 100 Canadian personalities whose accomplishments will be officially recognized in 2017, which also marks Canada’s 150th anniversary and the 50th anniversary of the Order.
