Destination and Attractions Event Ambassadors Events

Thanks to Université Laval biologist and researcher Christian Landry, Québec City will be hosting a major international conference on molecular biology and evolution. The city won the bid to hold the event at the Society for Molecular Biology and Evolution’s (SMBE) last annual meeting in Austin, Texas. Over 1,000 scientists from around the world will gather at the Québec City Convention Centre from June 28 to July 2, 2020.

A recognized leader in his field, Landry has been a terrific ambassador, eager to bring a high-profile conference to Québec City. Sales Manager Jocelyn Guertin and the Québec City Convention Centre team have supported him in this endeavour, helping him prepare the bid for the event. Guertin also accompanied Landry to Austin to present the bid to SMBE decision-makers.

Landry boasts an impressive resume. He serves as an associate professor at Université Laval’s Department of Biology, was awarded an E.W.R. Steacie Memorial Fellowship, and holds the Canada Research Chair in Evolutionary Cell and Systems Biology. He also conducts research at the Institute for Integrative Systems Biology (IBIS), PROTEO, and the Big Data Research Centre (BDRC).

As he continues his work on the evolution of molecular biodiversity, Landry will devote some time to planning the event, scheduled to be held in three years. His local planning committee will include scientists from Université Laval, Université du Québec à Rimouski, and Université de Montréal.
