La Terrasse Optique
From May 16 to July 1st, 2019, the Québec City Convention Centre welcomes La Terrasse Optique (Optical Terrace). The Terrace, an initiative from Université Laval’s Center for Optics, Photonics and Lasers (COPL) students, will be displayed outdoors, on the Promenade Desjardins, between the Convention Centre and the Hilton Québec.
The Optical Terrace mixes architecture and science. It aims at popularizing certain luminous phenomena of everyday life. Optics is a key industry for Québec City, with numerous researchers and businesses thriving in that field.
Three events will be held in the optics field at the Convention Centre in the coming months: ETOP 2019, Photonics North 2019 and AO4ELT6.
Open to the public
Visitors will be able to experience a relaxing environment all the while experiencing various optical phenomena in an urban setting where art meets sciences. They will also be able to learn more on the optics field.
International Day of Light – May 16, 2019
On May 16, 1960, the very first laser was lit by Theodore Maiman, marking the beginning of a scientific and technical revolution that continues nearly 60 years later. This landmark event inspired UNESCO in 2016 to proclaim this date as the International Day of Light.
