Since its inauguration on August 26, 1996, the Qu\u00e9bec City Convention Centre has hosted over 3,340 events\u2014that\u2019s 4.04 million room nights and $2.18 billion in spinoffs in the Qu\u00e9bec City area. Today the Centre contributes significantly to the city\u2019s economy and social and intellectual life while putting Qu\u00e9bec City on the world convention map with industry-leading sustainable development initiatives.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div  class=\"item wysiwyg component-paragraph component-no-padding \" ><div class=\"container\">\n<p>On June 17, 2011, confident in the outlook for business tourism, the Qu\u00e9bec government agreed to invest $36 million to expand the Qu\u00e9bec City Convention Centre. This 73,000 sq. ft. expansion project will raise the international profile of the Qu\u00e9bec region and Qu\u00e9bec as a whole. The $36 million Qu\u00e9bec government investment is divided as follows: $4.3 million for the acquisition of part of the shopping mall Place Qu\u00e9bec and $31.7 million for the construction work.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div  class=\"item wysiwyg component-paragraph component-no-padding \" ><div class=\"container\">\n<p>The expansion work started in June 2012 and was completed in March 2014, under the responsibility of the Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 immobili\u00e8re du Qu\u00e9bec. In addition to generating some $20 million in economic activity annually, this expansion positions the Qu\u00e9bec City Convention Centre as the premiere convention destination in Canada.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div  class=\"item wysiwyg component-columns\"><div class=\"container\" >\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\"><div  class=\"item wysiwyg component-heading component-no-padding \" ><div class=\"container\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1974<\/h2>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div  class=\"item wysiwyg component-list component-no-padding \" ><div class=\"container\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The Municipal Convention Centre is inaugurated under Hilton Qu\u00e9bec\u2019s management.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div  class=\"item wysiwyg component-heading component-no-padding \" ><div class=\"container\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1988<\/h2>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div  class=\"item wysiwyg component-list component-no-padding \" ><div class=\"container\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Canada currently has 25 convention centres.
