Energy-efficient Lighting<\/strong><\/h2>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n

The Convention Centre\u2019s large Exhibit Hall, where numerous conventions and trade shows<\/a> are held each year, features an extensive lighting network illuminating 75,000 sq. ft. of space. Replacement work on the warm-white lighting is nearly complete, involving the switch from quartz fixtures to new LED lights that consume five times less energy. This new system allows independent control of each fixture, as well as programmable adjustments to white levels and light intensity based on the needs of the event.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n

In the meeting and workshop rooms on Level 2, halogen and fluorescent lighting has been replaced with LED bulbs, as was previously done in the rooms on Level 3. With the completion of this project, all meeting rooms at the Convention Centre now feature more versatile and, above all, more energy-efficient<\/a> lighting. The paint in these meeting rooms was also refreshed this year to give them a renewed look.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

Waste and Energy Management<\/strong><\/h2>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n

This year, the Convention Centre’s Building Management team is undertaking a comprehensive review of its waste management procedures<\/a>. To this end, the team is collaborating with Stratzer<\/a>, a consulting firm specializing in waste management. The goal of this initiative is to enhance existing processes and achieve the Performance level of Recyc-Qu\u00e9bec\u2019s ICI on recycle + (IOR+)<\/a> certification by 2025, followed by the Performance + level by 2027-2028.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n

\n

As part of the ongoing effort to reduce waste and streamline procedures, a brand-new dynamic signage monitor has been installed at the main entrance to the Convention Centre. This double-sided screen eliminates the need for printed paper signage for each event and makes it easier for attendees and visitors to find their way as soon as they arrive.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n

In the kitchens of Maestro Culinaire<\/a>, the Convention Centre\u2019s exclusive food service partner, an upgrade to the hood automation panel is underway. This new equipment will enable automatic hood cleaning and ventilation modulation, offering improved energy efficiency. Financial support from \u00c9nergir<\/a> and Transition \u00e9nerg\u00e9tique Qu\u00e9bec<\/a> is helping to offset the cost of this project.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

Furniture and Coverings<\/strong><\/h2>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n

Replacement of the upholstery for nearly 8,700 chairs will be completed in 2025, using fabric made in Qu\u00e9bec. At the same time, some damaged chairs have been repaired to extend their usability.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n

In the Convention Hall on Level 2, the entire carpet was replaced with a new, more modern design, covering a surface area of 35,000 sq. ft. The old carpet was fully recycled.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n

The wooden doors providing access to rooms 200, 400, and 2000 have been replaced with sturdier, more durable doors.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n

The tops of the large round tables used for banquets were also replaced. They were crafted by Prise<\/a>, a socio-professional integration company specializing in woodworking. This organization collected the old table tops and transformed them into a variety of other products.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

Upcoming Projects<\/strong><\/h2>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n

The Building Management team at the Convention Centre takes a proactive approach to facility maintenance, always seeking to repair what can be preserved and innovate in terms of sustainability. Alongside recent renovations and upgrades, new projects are continuously planned:<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n

  • In the coming months, some room partitions will be replaced due to aging. Functional parts will be preserved for use in other partitions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n

    • Following the renovation of Level 3 bathrooms in 2023, bathrooms on all other levels will also undergo full renovation to improve accessibility. New touch-free equipment (doors, flushes, faucets), water-saving devices, and more sustainable materials will be installed. The design will also be modernized to bring it up to date<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n

      The Qu\u00e9bec City Convention Centre upholds high standards of management and maintenance daily, ensuring that clients and visitors benefit from modern, sustainable facilities.<\/p>\n

      Construction and renovation projects at the Convention Centre comply with the CRD Waste Management Policy (construction-r\u00e9novation-d\u00e9molition), which aims to divert this type of waste from landfills and incinerators, redirecting it to recovery or recycling facilities and promoting its reuse.<\/p>\n <\/div>\n \n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n \n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n
