Québec City, November 28th, 2007. – Eco-friendly event packages launched by the Québec City Convention Centre last April have been enthusiastically received by clients wishing to reduce their events’ environmental footprint.
An estimated 20 organizations will hold eco-friendly events within the first year, which is four times the original target. After only three months, six organizations have chosen one of the Centre’s three packages: Zero Waste Event, Zero Waste Event with Offsets, and Carbrobneutral Zero Waste Event.
The Fédération Québécoise des Municipalités was the first to subscribe to the Centre’s advisory and operational services for their annual conference held last September, with 3,000 participants and some 160 exhibitors. “Thanks to the Centre’s help and expertise, we were able to quantify our results and identify our waste management rate. The detailed report, along with the eco-advisor’s recommendations, will allow us to improve future performance”, declared event manager Suzanne Boivin.
Futurallia Québec 2008, an international business event, for their part selected the Zero Waste with Offsets package, in collaboration with the Fondation de la Faune du Québec. “We are aware of our participants’ concern with these issues. In addition to reducing our waste, we would like to show the way through actions that benefit Québec’s biodiversity. Contrary to what one might think, these actions cost a mere few dollars per attendee. Furthermore, our partners showed interest in providing financial support for the program”, stated Mrs. Caroline Lepage, of PÔLE Québec Chaudière-Appalaches.
The Québec City Convention Centre’s CEO, Mr. P-Michel Bouchard, is very satisfied with both current results and the outlook for the future. “We have promoted our program to other organizations and we know that a major, world-scale event will feature our Carboneutral Zero Waste package in 2008. Throughout my recent trips, I have presented our initiatives to other convention centre managers, and I can assure you that our approach here in Québec City reaches far beyond that of our competitors.
